Masatomo Ishikawa (MABO)

石川雅與

MABO creates works using metals such as copper and brass as primary materials, combining traditional Japanese techniques with self-developed methods of expression. The central theme of MABO’s work is "space and time."

Having grown up in a nature-rich environment, MABO experienced the fear, strength, kindness, and beauty of nature in a visceral way. These experiences are deeply connected to Japan’s ancient view of nature and spirituality, symbolized by the “Eight Million Gods” (Yaoyorozu no Kami).

MABO’s creative process focuses not only on the physical work itself but also on the surrounding space. By existing within a particular space, the work has the potential to transform not only the environment but even the flow of time, pursuing the possibility of establishing itself as a form of expression.
